My Background and Passion for Teaching French

Bonjour, I'm Isabelle — a French tutor and teacher based in Toronto. French is my first language, and I've built my career around teaching it to others.

I have over two years of experience teaching French to students ranging from preschool through working professionals. I currently teach at a private Montessori school in Toronto and tutor with two online tutoring centers. I also tutor private students one-on-one, including high-schoolers and working professionals preparing for travel, exams, or workplace use. Across these settings, I've developed an approach grounded in clear structure, consistent feedback, and lessons designed around each student's specific goals.

My teaching is informed by my background in psychology. I hold an Honours BA in Psychology from York University's Glendon Campus. Studying psychology gave me practical tools for understanding how learners retain information, and how anxiety can interfere with learning — both of which directly shape how I structure my lessons.

À très bientôt.

My Teaching Approach

I would describe my teaching style as patient, supportive, and adaptable. I genuinely enjoy working with people and take the time to understand how each student learns best. I adjust my approach based on their learning style, pace, and goals, so lessons feel clear and manageable.

What makes my lessons effective is that they’re tailored to each person, with a focus on building confidence and helping students actually use French in a way that feels natural.

My Core Values as a Tutor

The most important values for me as a tutor are patience, support, and adaptability. I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable and not judged, so I try to create a relaxed and encouraging environment.

I also adapt to each student’s pace and learning style, because everyone is different. These values show in the way I teach — I take the time to explain clearly, I include practice throughout the session, and I focus on helping students build confidence as they improve.

" I was really impressed by her patience and personalized approach. I’ve truly improved my confidence in French! "
